More than a counter
A clearer view of everything you write
AdamTools gives writers, students, marketers and teams the numbers they need without sending private drafts to a server. Type directly, paste existing content or open a document and continue editing the extracted text.
Words, letters and characters
Words measure the units of language. Letters include Unicode alphabetic characters, while characters also include punctuation, numbers, spaces and emoji.
PDF and Word word count
Open a text-based PDF, DOCX, ODT, RTF, TXT, Markdown or HTML file. AdamTools extracts its readable text locally and places it in the editor.
Reading and speaking time
Reading time uses 200 words per minute. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, a practical pace for talks, videos and presentations.
Keyword frequency
See repeated meaningful terms after common English or French words are removed. This is useful for focus and balance, not keyword stuffing.
How to count words in a document
Paste or open
Write in the editor, paste text or choose a supported document.
Review instantly
Every metric updates as the text changes. Choose English, French or automatic analysis.
Use the result
Copy the statistics, set a word goal or download the extracted text as a clean TXT file.
Your document stays on your device
The file is read by your browser. AdamTools does not upload its contents, filename or statistics. Closing or refreshing the page clears the editor because drafts are not saved automatically.
What about scanned PDFs?
A scan is an image rather than selectable text. This first version detects image-only PDFs and explains the limitation instead of returning a misleading zero. OCR support may be added later.
FAQ
Word counter FAQ
Is this word counter free?
Yes. It is free, requires no account and places no watermark on exported text.
Does it count PDF and Word documents?
Yes. It reads text-based PDF and modern DOCX files, plus ODT, RTF, TXT, Markdown and HTML.
Are my documents uploaded?
No. Extraction and analysis happen locally in your browser.
Why can’t it read my scanned PDF?
Scanned pages contain images. OCR is not included in this version, so the tool asks for a text-based PDF.
How are words counted?
AdamTools uses the browser’s international text segmentation rules where available, with a Unicode-aware fallback.
What is the difference between letters and characters?
Letters are alphabetic symbols. Characters also include spaces, punctuation, digits and emoji.
